I was watching a Youtube video (not FIM related at all), and I found an interesting phenomenon (that DEFINITELY happened to FIM in the last season - not with every character but definitely some), that I had never seen named and defined until now. It's called "retrocasting". It's when, later on in a series, or in a later movie or whatever, a character is completely changed/retonned. Their personality and development is all thrown out, and instead changed to be the same as the actor that potrays them. The most obvious recent example of this is Star Trek Picard ("Picard" in that is not Picard, he's just Patrick Stewart), but it happens all over the place.
When you start seeing stuff like this, it's time to stop watching: it's a great way to show that the writers have no new ideas, and the actors don't care anymore and are phoning it in.
Hey Bret, have you looked at the Post 2020 Starlight videos I've shown
(late reply)
Haven't seen it as I'm reluctant of view videos that praises/shills her character in spite of how she was handled S5 finale onward after McCarthy's departure from show supervising.
I bring this up because 3 of those videos (except for the 2nd one, which is more a balanced analysis) came from last year and I noticed this (Thanks to a post made by hayley566). A part of me is starting to believe are starting to change their views and how their starting to shift. Which does make me a bit worried on that front.
I also found some Post 2020 Videos
There are 2 parts to this video
